Additive color mixing is a color synthesis method based on the addition of colors of directly emitting objects or dyes . Mixing in a certain ratio the basic colors , you can reproduce most of the colors perceived by man.
The additive mixing method is based on the structural features of the human visual analyzer, in particular, on such a phenomenon as metamerism . The retina of the human eye contains three types of cones that perceive light in the violet-blue, green-yellow and yellow-red parts of the spectrum.
The previously recognized additive color model was Johannes Itten's model, where the primary colors are red , yellow and blue .
The modern standard for additive color mixing is the RGB color space model , where the primary colors are red ( R ed) , green ( G reen) and blue ( B lue) . Additive mixing according to the RGB model is used in computer monitors and television screens, the color image on which is obtained from the red, green and blue dots of the phosphor or light matrix.
According to Itten's model, in the absence of paint there is no color - white , maximum mixing gives black . According to the RGB model, in the absence of paint, there is no color - black , maximum mixing gives white .
At the same time, the RGB model synthesizes all colors only in computer and television technologies, while according to Itten's model, the synthesis of all colors is also possible in practice (in paints, in lighting, etc.). For example, according to the RGB model, in practice it is impossible to synthesize white and yellow and all colors, where yellow is involved as a component or shade.
Subtractive Mixing
In contrast to additive color mixing, subtractive synthesis schemes exist. In this case, the color is formed by subtracting certain colors from white light. The most common subtractive synthesis model with other primary colors is CMYK , which is widely used in printing.
