Along with countries with their own monetary systems, there are two monetary unions in Africa: the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) and the Central African Monetary and Economic Community (CEMAC). ZAEVS and CAECP use CFA Franc as a regional currency. Banknotes circulating in the countries of West and Central Africa differ in appearance, but have the same ratio with other currencies.
In addition, in the south of Africa there is a single currency zone - an economic and monetary union linking South Africa , Lesotho and Swaziland . The national currencies of Lesotho and Swaziland ( lots and lilageni, respectively) are tightly tied to the South African rand . In addition, in these countries, the rand is freely traded and is legal tender. The foreign exchange policy in the single currency zone is pursued by the South African Reserve Bank . The single currency zone is an alliance with the South African Customs Union .
