Submarines of project 667AT "Pear"

Submarines of Project 667AT Pear are a series of Soviet nuclear submarines equipped with the Granat complex with 32 C-10 Granat subsonic strategic cruise missiles on board.
They were a modification of the project 667 Navaga . Project 667AT submarines became the first submarine carriers of the C-10 Grenade cruise missiles.

Missile weapons8 TA, 32 C-10 Grenade

Modernization was carried out in Severodvinsk at the Zvyozdochka shipyard [3] . The 5th (missile) compartment was cut out from the submarines and a new one was welded in its place, in which eight 533 mm torpedo tubes were located. For the first time in domestic underwater shipbuilding, TAs were installed at an angle in the middle of the submarine.

The ships were equipped with the improved Tobol-667AT navigation system. The main power plant and general ship systems were left with minimal changes.

The main armament of the ship of this modification was 32 strategic missile launchers C-10 Grenade launched from eight 533-mm torpedo tubes located in the 5th compartment. Instead of cruise missiles, torpedo tubes could be used to launch long-range torpedoes.

The project planned the modernization of six nuclear submarines of Project 667A Navaga , three each at the Zvezda shipyard in Bolshoy Kamen and Zvyozdochka in Severodvinsk . [4] With the manufacture of new blocks, respectively, at the shipyards named after the Lenin Komsomol in Komsomolsk-on-Amur and Sevmash in Severodvinsk. [four]

But in total, only three [5] Project 667A nuclear submarines were modernized under Project 667AT:

  • K-423 - went into operation on November 13, 1970, modernization work began in 1983 , completed in 1986 [5] [6] ;
  • K-253 - went into operation on November 1, 1969, modernization work began on May 17, 1984 , completed on December 20, 1988 [3] [7] ;
  • K-395 - went into operation on December 20, 1969, modernization work began on June 24, 1988, and was completed on December 30, 1991 [8] .

All three nuclear submarines were part of the Northern Fleet. K-395 was expelled from the fleet on September 1, 2002.
