Borjava (mountain meadow)

Polonina Borzhava is a mountain range on the Poloninsky ridge of the Ukrainian Carpathians , between the Latoritsa and Rika rivers within the Transcarpathian region ( Ukraine ). Length over 50 km, width 34 km, height up to 1681 m (Mount Stoy ). The southern slope of the meadow is gentle, it is elongated and dissected, the northern one abruptly breaks off to the valley of the Ripinki River. The Borzhovskaya meadows adjoins the Kuka meadows, which are often considered a separate mountain range. The Paleniy Grun ridge also belongs to this meadow. The distant crest of the mountain meadow is at a distance of 44 km, so Borzhava is the longest mountain meadow in Transcarpathia.

The ridge surfaces are aligned, with individual cone-shaped peaks:

  • Stand (1681 m),
  • Temnatic (1343 m),
  • Big Top (1598 m),
  • Magura-Gide (1505 m),
  • Hornbeam (1374 m),
  • Gemba (1498 m)
  • Cook (1361 m) and others.

It consists of flysch (sandstones prevail in the layers). The slopes are dissected by tributaries of the Borzhava , Latoritsa and Riki rivers. At an altitude of 1200-1450 m there is a belt of beech forests, higher up - mountain valleys. On the slopes of Mount Stoy - the reserve of national importance Rososhny. In the past, Polonina Borzhava was a district of sheep breeding; in modern times, it is a tourism region.
