Biography

F. M. Dostoevsky dearly loved his second daughter. A few months after the birth of his daughter, the happy Fedor Mikhailovich wrote to his niece S. A. Ivanova on December 14 (26), 1869 from Dresden:

“I can’t express to you how I love her. <...> The girl is healthy, cheerful, developed beyond her years (that is, beyond her months), everything sings with me when I sing, and everything laughs; rather quiet non-whimsical child. It looks like me to the ridiculous, to the smallest hell. ”

- [1]

Subsequently, when Lyuba grew up, she wrote notes to her father (a total of 11 were preserved). Two answers of the writer to these notes have been preserved - from April 26, 1874 from Moscow and from August 7 (19), 1879 from Ems [2] .

Lyube was 12th year when Dostoevsky died. The funeral of the father probably affected the character of the impressionable child, although Luba's soreness influenced his formation to a greater extent [2] . Dostoevist N. N. Nasedkin wrote: “The grandiose funeral of Dostoevsky had an extremely powerful effect on the impressionable Luba, helped her to finally realize WHERE she was the daughter, WHO was her father. This did not have the best effect on her character. <...> According to the recollections of many, she was lifeless, arrogant, arrogant ” [3] .

Lyubov Fyodorovna did not help her mother perpetuate the glory of Dostoevsky, creating her image as the daughter of a famous writer, and later left Anna Grigoryevna altogether [2] . Her attempts to write resulted in the collection of short stories Sick Girls (1911), the novels The Emigrant (1912), The Lawyer (1913), which did not meet with recognition. Her personal life also did not work out.

In 1913, after another trip abroad for treatment, she stayed abroad forever. There she wrote and published (first in German, later in other European languages) the main work of her life, “ Dostoejewski geschildert von seiner Tochter ” (München, 1920). In Russian, he appeared in Russia under the title "Dostoevsky in the image of his daughter L. Dostoevskaya" in a greatly abridged version [2] . N. N. Nasedkin wrote: “The book of Dostoevsky’s daughter contains a lot of factual inaccuracies, errors and controversial statements, but at the same time contains a lot of interesting and new for the researchers work of the writer” [3] . The presentation of these memoirs about the writer as “eyewitness notes”, given the age of Lyubov Fedorovna in the year of the death of her father, should be considered a misunderstanding. Nevertheless, the semi-literary portraits of Fyodor Mikhailovich and people from his entourage, which came from the pen of Lyubov Fyodorovna, are actively used by researchers of the great writer in cases where there are no more reliable sources.

The Dostoevists S. V. Belov and V. A. Tunimanov noted the main drawback of L. F. Dostoevskaya’s memoirs: in some cases, free handling of facts and undoubted tendentiousness [4] .

She wrote several autobiographical novels.

The last two years, Lyubov Fyodorovna lived in Italy, where she died of bleeding in the South Tyrolean town of Gries, now part of the city limits of Bolzano , on November 10, 1926 in the private clinic of the famous doctor F. Rössler. In her last letter to Russia, she asked Andrei ’s nephew “to serve a requiem for his grandmother and grandfather of the Dostoevsky . ”

She was buried in the local cemetery of Oltrisarko, which was abolished in the second half of the 1950s. The ashes and tombstones of Ema Dostoevskaya (as she called herself abroad) were transferred to the central city cemetery.
