Pre-Petrine time

The founder of the clan, Vasily Durnovo, had three sons, of whom the eldest and youngest branches of the clan, respectively, come from two - two of them - Kolomna's henchman Ivan Vasilchikov (up. 1518) and Fedor Vasilchikov (up. 1500). The great-great-grandson of Vasily - Grigory Borisovich , the boyar , in 1592 participated in the delimitation of Russian and Swedish possessions, carried out a number of diplomatic missions (including in Persia under Abbas I the Great ). In 1573, the guardsmen of Ivan the Terrible were: Ivan Alekseevich, Grigory and Nazariy Borisovich, Grigory and Ilya Andreyevich Vasilchikovs [3] .

Heraldry

The coat of arms of the Vasilchikovs has much in common with the arms of their sister Tolstoys and Durnovo. He represents in the azure field a horizontally laid golden saber threaded into the ring of the golden key along with the silver arrow, which is slanted upward from the lower right corner, to the left corner; while to the right corner of the shield a silver outstretched wing extends from the key ring.

Coat of arms description

In the upper half of the shield, in a golden field, the half-emerging double-headed, crowned with three crowns, imperial Russian black eagle with a scepter and power in its paws, with a Moscow coat of arms on its chest, is half visible. The lower half is divided perpendicularly into two parts having both a red field. In the middle of the shield is inserted the ancient coat of arms of the noble family of the Vasilchikovs (see above).

The shield of the prince's coat of arms is crowned with a noble helmet with the count's crown, to indicate the elevation of the noble branch of the family name first in count dignity. Above the count’s crown, the crest of the crest depicts the emerging black state eagle with crowns, a scepter and a power, with a Moscow coat of arms on its chest. On the right side of the eagle, the standard of the Akhtyr hussar regiment is depicted, and on the left is a red badge depicting a silver lily with the year 1814 to remind General Illarion Vasilievich Vasilchikov of the equestrian ranger regiment in Versailles. Bait black with gold. Shield holders: on the right is the hussar of the Akhtyrsky regiment, on the left is the horse ranger in the uniform of the regiment formed by him in France. Motto: << LIFE TO THE KING, HONOR TO ANYONE >> in gold letters on a blue ribbon. The coat of arms is covered with a princely mantle and a princely hat.

The count's coat of arms was absolutely with the same emblems and differed from the prince’s only in that the latter was covered with a prince’s cap and located on a developed Russian princely mantle.
