From childhood, he showed interest in the music of African-American performers, such as Bo Diddley , John Lee Hooker , BB King , Louis Armstrong and others, was fond of jazz , blues and rock and roll . At the head of The Animals, he became one of the leaders of the “ British invasion, ” gaining worldwide fame with hits such as “ The House of the Rising Sun ”, “Good Times”, “ Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood ”, “Bring It On Home” to Me, It's It's My Life, We Gotta Get Out Of This Place. In 1966, after the collapse of the original line-up, he assembled (with Barry Jenkins) Eric Burdon & the Animals , a group composed of John Vader (later part of Family and Andy Summers (guitarist of The Police ) .This line-up (later renamed Eric Burdon and the New Animals) was no less popular: the singles When I Was Young , Sky Pilot and Monterey took the first place in Britain.
After the band broke up in 1969, Burdon joined forces with the California-based funk band War , releasing, in particular, Eric Burdon Declares's now-considered classic album, “War” (with hit singles Spill the Wine and Tobacco Road ).
In 1971, Burdon began a solo career, twice reformed the old lineup and led several different bands called Eric Burdon Band, retaining many loyal fans, especially in Europe. In the spring and summer of 2007 he toured as part of the Hippiefest festival, organized by Country Joe MacDonald .
