Biography
Adriana Jellinek was the third child in the family of Emil Jellinek and Rachel Goggman Zenrobert ( German: Rachel Goggmann Cenrobert , 1854-1893). The granddaughter of Vienna ’s chief rabbi Adolf Jellinek , his mother was of Sephardic descent and a native of Algeria .
In the house, Adriana was nicknamed " Mercedes " ( from Sephardic - "Mercy, grace"). Her father, an Austrian banker and co-owner of the automobile company Gottlieb Daimler , named after his daughter the brand of a car manufactured at the enterprise.
The Mercedes was a combination of elements from previous Daimler models and technical innovations such as a stamped frame and a mechanical intake valve drive, which had to be abandoned later. The car was unusually obedient to drive and, most importantly, reliable in operation. Since that time, the name "Mercedes" has become the hallmark of the company "Daimler": all subsequent models of this company go under this brand.
The first in the series was the 1901 Mercedes 35 PS . February 23, 1902 the word "Mercedes" was registered as an official trademark. In the same year, at a motor show in Paris , a portrait of Mercedes was posted at the stand. And in June 1903, Emil Jellinek received official permission to change his name from "Jellinek" to "Jellinek-Mercedes."
Mercedes lived in Vienna , and was known for two scandalous divorces. She played music, and she had a good voice, but she never shared her paternal love for cars. Died of bone cancer in 1929 .
Her brother is the Austrian writer Raul Ferdinand Yellinek (1888-1939).
