Flooded quarry for the extraction of Inkerman stone
Inkerman stone - bryozoan limestone from the vicinity of Inkerman , easy to process. Since ancient times, Inkerman stone was widely used in construction, exported to ancient Rome . According to its construction and architectural properties, Inkerman stone is durable, soft, homogeneous, monolithic, has heat-insulating properties. It is durable, well retains the edge in the hewn products. Due to the properties of Inkerman stone, it became possible to build cave towns and monasteries of the Crimea in the strip from Sevastopol to the interfluve of the Alma and Bodrak rivers.
Many buildings in Sevastopol are made of Inkerman stone; it was also used in Alexandria , Marseille .
