Content
History
The memorial was laid on March 6, 1985. More than twenty organizations of the city took part in the construction. The opening took place on May 8, 1985.
Subsequently, the memorial was finalized in the 1987-1988s: bas-reliefs were erected, a star for the Eternal Flame was erected in the center of the structure.
May 9, 1995 in one of the wreaths of the memorial (from the side of Yubileynaya St. ) a capsule was laid with the earth brought from Poklonnaya Hill in Moscow . In April 2007, part of the frame of the Eternal Flame was stolen, but soon the vandals were detained and the elements were restored [1] [2] (inaccessible link) .
Authors
The authors of the project are a group of AvtoVAZ employees comprising: G. S. Ryabkova, V. M. Demidovtseva, A. M. Kekhman, V. I. Makarenko, N. D. Makarenko. The general contractor was the AvtoVAZremstroymontazh trust. The construction project was led by Deputy General Director for Capital Construction V. A. Popov.
The author of the project was Semyon Mikhailovich Vinograd .
Architecture
Architecturally, the structure consists of four steles 10 meters high, united by a ring.
Four steles - in memory of four years of war. At the top of each stele there are numbers representing one or another years of the war (1941-1942; 1942-1943; 1943-1944; 1944-1945).
At the foot of each of the steles on the outside there are ledges with stylized patch wreaths cast from aluminum . Four bas-reliefs - “Partisans”, “Victims of Fascism”, “Rear” and “Front” - made by sculptor Sandor Zicherman, are located on the inside .
The ring, uniting the steles, weighs about 7 tons, lined with stainless steel. On the inside there is an inscription in aluminum letters “Eternal glory to the people’s feat!”
In the center is the bronze star of the Eternal Flame, framed by five bronze sections.
The stylobate with an area of 24 x 24 m is made of granite slabs delivered from Petrozavodsk.
The monument is well inscribed in space, pylons are located exactly on the cardinal points. Access is possible from all sides. Elements and the monument is made of non-coloring materials with a predominance of natural gray.
