Volcanic tuff - igneous rock from volcanic ash , volcanic bombs and other debris ejected during the eruption of the volcano and compacted. Often has an admixture of non-volcanic rocks. Volcanic tuff perfectly serves as a wall stone. It can be red, pink, purple, brown, orange, less often gray and black. One of the most valuable qualities of this rock is easy processing, volcanic tuff can be processed with an ax and a saw.
Education Terms
The formation of volcanic tuff is associated with the loss of debris during the eruption, sometimes with the transfer of their water flows. The composition distinguishes liparitic , dacitic , andesitic , basaltic tuffs.
Together with volcanic breccias and intermediate types of rocks, tuff is a large group of pyroclastic rocks .
Major deposits
The main deposits are located in Armenia , Italy (near Rome and Naples ), Iceland , Cape Verde . One of the largest deposits of volcanic tuff in the world is the Artik Tuff Field , located in Armenia , in the city of Artik . It contains more than 250 million m³ [1] .
Colors
Volcanic tuff differs from other breeds of decorative stone in a wide range of bright and saturated shades, from black to white.
Application
It is used as a building material (aggregate in lightweight concrete ), serves as an excellent wall stone, due to its light weight and frost resistance. It is easily processed by a saw and an ax. It can be violet ( arctic ), red and orange ( anian ), pink, brown, yellow, less often gray and black.
The vast majority of moai statues from Easter Island are made of volcanic tuff.
Use
On the street Myasnitskaya, 39, in Moscow in 1929-30, according to the project of Le Corbusier , the administrative building of the Central Union was built with an alternation of glass surfaces and surfaces tiled with pink tufa from Armenia (north-western slope of Mount Aragats , near the city of Artik ).
