The city was formed in 1861 by Joseph-Davi Deziel , although there were earlier settlements on the site of the modern Levi. Named in honor of the French commander, Duke de Levy .
Levi is located on the right bank of the St. Lawrence River opposite the capital of the province of Quebec , which is connected to the famous Quebec bridge .
The population of the city for 2011 leaves 138,769 thousand inhabitants. The city itself covers an area of about 335 km². 97.6% of the population calls French as the only native language [1] .
