Name Origin

According to a common version, the name that arose in the 19th century is a distortion of the correct Vyazkovsky , formed from the name of the Vyazka area, known from the XIV century. Later it was called Pod Vyazki, which indicates the origin of the name from elm (perhaps there was an elm grove). The former name, Forest Passage, used in the second half of the 19th century, is given in the direction of the Forest Row (or market) on Miusskaya Square, where they traded timber and firewood. In the middle of the 19th century, it closed the Mius Square from the south. The lane got its current name at the beginning of the 20th century.

Ya. Z. Rachinsky disputes the version of P. V. Sytin about the origin of the name from the root "elm" and notes the use for the locality in the census of 1737-1745. names of Veski. The same name, according to the boundary book of 1767, was a drinking house, located on the corner of the current alley and Dolgorukovskaya street. Its name, in turn, is derived from the word "weight" - scales with bowls, which were used in trade and in everyday life. Thus, the spelling of Vyazka, which arose in the middle of the 18th century, is already distorted. [one]
