Bruce Alberts ( born Bruce Alberts ; born April 14, 1938 , Chicago ) is an American biochemist , molecular biologist.

Emerit Professor at the University of California, San Francisco. In 1993-2005, he was president of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA , its member since 1981 [3] , member of the American Philosophical Society (1994), foreign member of the Royal Society of London (1993) and the Russian Academy of Sciences (2003). He was awarded the United States National Science Medal (2012).
Gained fame after the publication of the results of studies of chromosome replication mechanisms, which is a necessary condition for cell division .
The textbook " ", authored by Bruce Alberts and co-authors, is the standard in the field of teaching theory and methods of molecular biology.
Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (1978), European Academy (1994), American Association for the Advancement of Science. Honorary Member of the Romanian Academy (2006).
He graduated from Harvard College with a degree in biochemical sciences. He received his doctorate from Harvard University in 1965. The following year, 1966, he entered the staff of Princeton University, and ten years later he transferred to the medical school of the University of California at San Francisco, where he now emirits professor. Since 1980, lifelong research professor at the American Cancer Society.
