Biography
Pavel Matveevich Zenkov was born in the Tobolsk province, was a descendant of serfs who joined the merchant class.
September 12, 1867 at the invitation of the military governor of the Semirechensk region G.A. Kolpakovsky P.M. Zenkov arrived with his family in the Vernoye settlement, which had just received the status of a city. He lived in a house now known as the house of the Zenkov architects . Immediately took part in the construction of the monument to Chokan Valikhanov .
In 1869, together with engineer N.I. Krishtanovsky developed the initial rectangular layout of the city of Verny.
Since 1871, he acted as the Semirechensky regional architect, built the Church of Our Lady of Kazan and the house of the forester Eduard Baum (preserved on Amangeldy St.).
In 1877 , when the city was transferred to the administration of the civil administration, he was elected by the city assembly to the post of first mayor and was until 1888 .
After the earthquake of 1887, he worked at the newly organized Vernensky weather station. Pavel Matveyevich was a correspondent for several scientific societies, published materials on local history in the local and central press on Semirechye, and collaborated with various scientific societies in Russia and Turkestan .
