Description

The lane runs along the former steep left bank of the Neglinnaya River , which is why it abruptly descends from Rozhdestvenka to Neglinnaya Street. The lane overlooks Neglinnaya Street where it bends. The continuation of the alley behind Neglinna is the Rakhmanovsky lane .

Name Origin

Lane was named after the settlement located here, in which the Kremlin ringleaders lived.

History

A clash of ringers was formed on the left bank of the Neglinnaya in the 15th century and existed until the 17th century , adjacent to the vegetable gardens of the nearby Holy Virgin Monastery . The settlement was located north of the modern Zvonarsky lane. In the XVIII century, on the corner of the alley and Rozhdestvenka street, the church of St. Nicholas in the Ringer. In the XIX century, the lane was built up with low-rise buildings and several higher tenement houses. In 1922, because of its "religious" name , the lane was renamed the Second Neglinny; in October 1994, the return of the historical name of the lane was officially approved. In April 2019, a comprehensive improvement of the alley began.
