The Macedonian diaspora totals 400-500 thousand people (30-40% of the total number of Macedonians ). It is necessary to distinguish between the Diaspora of the Slavs of Macedonians, originating mainly from the modern Slavic-Albanian-speaking state of Northern Macedonia , from the large diaspora of the Greek Macedonians , originating mainly from the historical province of Greece Macedonia [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6 ] [7] .

- Bulgaria ( Blagoevgrad region ): over 200,000 people of Macedonian descent who retained their Bulgarian identity. According to the 2011 census, only 1,604 Bulgarian citizens recorded themselves as Macedonian as a separate ethnic group.
