Bender-Torkemen [1] ( Persian بندر ترکمن - bandar-e-torkaman , literally “port of Turkmenistan”, “Turkmen port”, where “e” is an isafet indicator), ex. Bender Shah is a port city in northern Iran , in the province of Golestan on the southeastern coast of the Caspian Sea . The administrative center of Shakhrestan Torkeman. The population is 126 thousand people, mainly Turkmens . The basis of the economy is agriculture , cotton growing, and tourism. Handicraft carpet production is developed.

History
The city was built in the 1930s. In 1935-1936, the volume of exports from Bandar Shah amounted to 28,000 tons, and imports of 2000.
After the Islamic Revolution of 1978-1979, the city was renamed Bender-Torkemen.
