History

In the first half of the 19th century, on the left bank of the Barnaul pond, a historical and architectural ensemble of Demidov Square was formed - the building of a mining school, a mountain hospital and an almshouse for the disabled of a silver smelter with the church of Dmitry Rostovsky . The territory where Spartak Square is now located was located on the northern outskirts of Demidov Square.

Here were the Mariinsky orphanage, women's gymnasium and the church of St. Dmitry of Rostov (Barnaul) , surrounded by a large square.

After the revolution of 1917, the church was closed, and in subsequent years it housed the "Museum of Fine Arts", a cinema club, shops and other organizations [1] . The former Dmitry Rostovsky Temple housed a fishing cooperation club. The square in front of the church was cut down, and in its place in 1954 a hockey box was installed for the games of the Barnaul team of the Spartak industrial cooperation, in whose honor the square was named [2] . Sports matches were held here until the 1970s , after which it was decided to make the final stop of city and suburban transport on Spartak Square. There are cash desks, a dispatch room and a bus stop.
