Ajuda (port. Palácio Nacional da Ajuda ) - the royal palace in Lisbon . Construction began in the late Baroque style shortly after the earthquake of 1755 , which destroyed the royal palace of the XV-XVI centuries standing on this site. The deplorable state of the treasury forced the king to reconsider the initial draft in the direction of reducing its size. By 1802 , the palace was completed in the style of classicism .
