"Jin, Ping, Mei" [2] ( Chinese ex. 金瓶梅 , pinyin : Jīn Píng Méi , pall .: Jin ping mei ) is an erotic and descriptive novel in colloquial Chinese , known since 1617. The title of the work consists of parts of the names of the main heroines of the novel: Pan Jinlian (潘金莲, Pan Jinlian, “Golden Lotus” Pan), Li Pinger (李瓶兒, Li Ping'er, “Little Vase” Li), and Pan Chunmei (龐春梅, Pang Chunmei, "Spring Plum Blossom" Pan).

The creation of the novel is attributed to the Lanlin mocker (real name unknown). It was the first Chinese novel of a realistic nature, and even with pornographic episodes. The book was banned for a long time because of its indecency; Chinese literary scholars turned to its study only in the 1980s [3] .
Contents
Challenging the prevailing tradition, the author wrote a book not about mythological or historical events, but about the everyday life of the rogue Simen Qing (西門慶), which he spends, caring in the company of his six wives and numerous concubines . Despite the debauchery that reigns in this den , one of Ximen's wives strictly adheres to the rules of virtue, and her first-born becomes a Buddhist monk in order to atone for the sins of her father.

- After the death of G.O. Monzeler, who was the first in Russia to start translating the novel, his work was continued by V.S. Manukhin , who devoted the last years of his life to this, but did not wait for the release of his work. The translation came out after his death in 1977 and was replete with numerous censorship notes.
- In the same truncated form, the novel was reprinted in 1986 (in two volumes) and in 1993 (in one volume) [4] .
- Another attempt to publish Jin Ping Mei was made in 1994. This time it was planned to publish the work in full. However, work on the publication was interrupted on the third volume, covering approximately three fifths of the text, which, in particular, was associated with the death of one of the participants in this project - V. S. Taskin.

- As a result, the championship in publishing the full text of the novel in European languages passed to the French two-volume translation by André Lévy ( French André Lévy ) in the world classics series “Bibliothèque de la Pléiade”.
Films
The story of married Pan Jinlian’s novel with the rogue Ximen Qing, which is described from different points of view in River Creeks and Plum Flowers in a Golden Vase, has become a classic story of Hong Kong cinema [5] , in particular, four films directed by Li Hanxiang ( China . 李翰祥 ), three of which follow the version of events in Plum Blossoms [6] :
- “Golden Lotus” (1974) - a film produced by Shaw Brothers Studio , in which the young Jackie Chan played a cameo role (at the time of filming, the actor was 20 years old).
- "Golden Lotus: Love and Desire" ( English Golden Lotus: Love and Desire , 1991) - an erotic film about the relationship of Li Pinger, Pan Jinlian and Ximen Qing.
- “The Loving Lotus Pan” ( The Amorous Lotus Pan , 1994) - a film whose action begins with the end of “Plum Blossoms in a Golden Vase”; The story of Pan Jinlian's dissolute life is described through flashbacks .
