The song “Sing Another Song, Boys” was recorded at the Isle of Wight music festival on August 30, 1970, all the others at Trident Studios in London from September 22 to 26. In 1995, Songs of Love and Hate was reissued on CD , and in 2012 it took 295th place in the list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time" according to Rolling Stone magazine. ^[one]

The name Songs of Love and Hate is a descriptive character and reveals the main theme of the album. The back cover of the album contains the lines.

The original version of “Famous Blue Raincoat” ends with the line “Sincerely, L. Cohen” ( Rus. Regards, L. Cohen ). Subsequently, a lot of covers were recorded for the song, including back-vocalist Cohen Jennifer Warnes on a tribute album to the musician. Avalanche recorded a Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds cover on their 1984 debut album From Her to Eternity . Dress Rehearsal Rag was originally recorded by Leonard Cohen for the album Songs from a Room , but was removed from the final version. She entered Songs of Love and Hate as a bonus track.
