Geocoding is the process of assigning geographic identifiers (such as geographic coordinates , expressed as latitude and longitude ) to map objects and data records.
For example, geocoding is the assignment of coordinates to records describing the address (street / house) or photographs (where the photo was taken) or IP addresses, or any other information that has a geographical component. Geocoded objects can be used in geographic information systems .
