Samuel Kelvin Peralta Sosa ( born Samuel Kelvin Peralta Sosa , born November 12, 1968) or just Sammy Sosa is a Dominican professional baseball player who played in the right-hand fielder and appointed batter position. He made his debut in Major League Baseball on June 16, 1989 for the Texas Rangers , and later played for the Chicago White Sox , Chicago Cubs and Baltimore Orioles . [1] Sosa is considered one of the best batsmen in the history of Major League Baseball. During his career, he knocked out more than 600 home runs and ranks fifth in the history of Major League Baseball on this indicator. In 1998, he gained national fame when, together with Mark McGwire, fought for the Major League Baseball leader in the number of home runs knocked out of the season, and exceeded the achievement of Roger Maris , set in 1991. Sosa is one of two National League players since 1900 who have knocked out more than 160 RBIs in one season, as well as the only player to have knocked out 60 or more home runs three times in one season.
