Story
At the beginning of the game, the Master Chief is on Earth, where the loyal Covenants - brutes, grunts and jackals - led by the Prophet of Truth destroy most of the surface of the planet. Covenant ships hang over huge excavations near the ruins of New Mombasa, where a huge artifact was discovered.
Master Chief, along with Sergeant Sergeant Johnson and the Covenant Heretic Arbiter, advance through the jungle to the outpost of the United Nations Space Command.
On the way, Master Chief begins to receive cryptic messages from Cortana. Shortly after arriving at the outpost, the Covenants begin an assault on the base. After a short battle, during which the outpost is destroyed, Master Chief receives an order from Captain Miranda Case, the daughter of Captain Case, and Lord Hood to clear the way to the African city of Howl, as well as to destroy all anti-aircraft defense of the covenants for the upcoming attack on the Prophet of Truth and Artifact.
After Master Chief and the Arbiter destroy the defense, the Prophet of Truth activates the artifact and creates a huge portal through which all the Covenant ships leave. While people are considering what to do, a covenant ship, led by the Flood, jumps out of hyperspace and quickly spreads throughout the city.
Master Chief and the Arbiter are trying to beat off the Flood waves, and the newcomer fleet of the Covenant Elites helps them to do this, they expose the infected territories to carpet bombing, burning the earth and turning everything in its path into glass. Miranda Keyes, Master Chief, Arbiter and Fleet of Elites pursue the Prophet of Truth.
They jump through the same portal and find themselves near a huge space structure - much more than the Halo Ring, which they learn about at the end of the second part.
They learn that the Ark is far beyond the Milky Way. 343 Shock Judge arrives in the transport of the Elites, promising any help to Master Chief, since with the destruction of the Halo entrusted to him in the first part, he only has one programmed task - helping the Applicant, that is, Master Chief.
As a guide, the Shock Judge leads the Spartan and Arbiter to the Ark's control room, where they barely manage to stop the Prophet of Truth before he can activate all the Halo in the galaxy - this would destroy all that is reasonable within the 3 radii of the Galaxy.
Captain Miranda Case dies in the fray, trying to save Johnson.
Meanwhile, "High Mercy", the former capital of the Covenants, infected by the Flood, arrives through hyperspace. By executing the Prophet of Truth, the Referee and Master Chief learn that the Ark is in the process of creating yet another Halo to replace the one that Master Chief destroyed. Deciding to activate the ring to destroy the Flood, Master Chief and the Arbiter first fly to the High Mercy to take Cortana from there, who is still captured by Gravemind, the leader of the Flood from the second part.
After her salvation, they destroy the "High Mercy", apparently by killing the Grave Mind.
Arriving at the brand new Halo, they quickly find out that Gravemind is still alive, trying to recreate themselves on the new design. Master Chief, Referee and Sergeant Johnson quickly make their way to the control room, where they are trying to activate Halo.
The Shock Judge realizes that this will destroy the new ring, as it is still not finished and kills Johnson when trying to activate. Then he exclaims to Master Chif, "... You are the Forerunner, but this building is mine!", Claiming that people are the Forerunners.
After destroying the Shocker Judge, Master Chief activates the Halo and, with the Vepr military machine, escapes with the Arbiter on Dawn, the UNSC ship. An honorable funeral is held on Earth for the dead - Miranda Keys and Sergeant Johnson - and the Arbiter flies to his home world.
Many believe that Master Chief did not reach Earth. But a short video after the end credits reveals that he and Cortana separated from the Referee when the section of the ship came off during the jump.
Drifting in space, Cortana sends a beacon with a signal for help, and the Chief sits in an suspended chamber, waiting for salvation.
If the game is played on Legendary difficulty, the video continues with a scene where an unknown planet is visible, to which the chip is approaching.
