Story

The episode begins in Park City , Utah , in the midst of the Sundance Independent Film Festival . Founder of the festival, Robert Redford , finds that Park City is spoiled by the dominance of Hollywood bigwigs and the spirit of commerce, so he decides to move the Sundance Film Festival next year to the small mountain town of South Park, Colorado .

Sundance Film Festival moves to South Park, which is immediately flooded with Hollywood tourists. Mr. Harrison gives each student in his class the task of watching one independent studio film and writing an essay. That night, Kyle , sitting on the toilet in the toilet, hears Mr. Hankey's voice coming from the toilet. He concludes that perhaps Mr. Hankey is in trouble and needs help.

The Chef opens a tent, where he starts with a not-so-successful trade in his own wafers, but soon makes a business breakthrough with his “Chef's Chocolate Salty Eggs”.

Kyle convinces Stan , Cartman , and Kenny to help him find Mr. Hankey; together they go down the drain and find him. Mr. Hankey says that his existence in urban sewers is threatened by the influx of Hollywood tourists who, by their large numbers and cravings for vegetarian cuisine, upset the “fragile ecological balance” in the sewers. As a result, Hankey fell ill and anticipates his near death.

Kyle and friends appear in front of the audience at one of the festival premieres. Kyle encourages festival guests to leave the city, explaining that their presence is disastrous for Mr. Hankey, but Hollywood celebrities take his story for trying to sell a successful script and vying to offer to buy an idea. Cartman willingly agrees to sign a contract for the sale of rights to Kyle's story.

Residents of South Park are beginning to feel that the festival is destroying their usual way of life; even the sales of Chef's Salty Chocolate Eggs are falling. Robert Redford's assistant sees South Park repeating the story of Park City , losing its charm of a quiet and cozy mountain town under the pressure of noisy crowds of aliens from California. Robert Redford reveals to her that all this was part of his plan, dictated by the envy of a Hollywood star for the peaceful life of provincial towns.

The premiere of the film based on Kyle’s “revised” Cartman’s short story with Tom Hanks as Kyle and a monkey as Mr. Hankey takes place at the festival that evening. Cartman speaks disapprovingly of Tom Hanks' acting skills, but he makes good money selling t-shirts featuring Mr. Hankey.

Kyle shows the dying Mr. Hankey to Robert Redford in the hope of convincing him to leave the city; but the sight of an almost-dried piece of shit doesn't convince him of anything. In a serious condition, Mr. Hankey is placed in intensive care, where Chef and Kyle, already mourning his death, are witnessing Hankey’s miraculous healing done by the Chef’s Chocolate Egg, which the Chef puts in his mouth a Christmas poop in the hope of alleviating his last suffering.

Robert Redford announces next year the festival will return to South Park. The children, Chef and Mr. Hankey are asking him to find some other city for the festival. In a speech addressed to the residents of South Park, Mr. Hankey criticizes the very format of modern film festivals, noting that the commercial component of the festivals often overshadows the main reason for which they are held - the cinema. After Robert Redford, who refused to change his intentions, tries to kill Mr. Hankey with a blow to the wall, Hankey miraculously transforms into a fecal sorcerer (Mr. Hankey's magical vestments - an obvious allusion to the canonical image of Mickey Mouse ) and rains tons of city visitors and festival infrastructure shit from the sewer. The participants of the festival, led by Robert Redford, flee, and the hotels and casinos they built collapsed under the pressure of feces - the city was liberated, and the locals drenched with shit from head to toe rejoice at their deliverance from the lifestyle imposed by the festival.

Kenny's death

Kenny stands at the door of the cinema. Suddenly the doors open and the crowd of spectators, seeing nothing, tramples Kenny to death. After that, the following exchange of remarks takes place between the last two viewers: “Oh, my God! I found a penny ! ”-“ You bastard! ”

Interesting Facts

  • In this episode, aliens appear. One of them can be seen sitting in the cinema during one of the shows, the other runs out of the cinema along with the crowd killing Kenny.
  • In the episode, Cartman states that all the independent films are about “fagot cowboys eating pudding,” thus predicting the plot of the movie Brokeback Mountain , which was released 7 years later. Trey Parker even joked: “If anyone there will eat pudding - we will sue them! [1] . "
  • Phyllis is voiced by Toddy Walters .

Parodies

  • Before his death, Mr. Hankey says, “There is another Skywalker,” which exactly repeats Yoda’s dying words from Star Wars’s sixth episode, The Return of the Jedi.
  • The scene where Mr. Hankey wears a wizard costume and floods the city with feces refers to one of the cartoons in Fantasy called The Sorcerer's Apprentice, where Mickey Mouse (playing the part of the apprentice) controls the water element.
