Geographical position
The lakes are located in the center of the Masurian Highlands , the topography of which formed during the ice age during the melting and displacement of the ice masses, therefore the hollows of the lakes are of a glacial-moraine origin and have the common name Masurian Lakes .
Hydrography
Due to constant humidification and a large amount of precipitation brought by the Baltic and Atlantic cyclones, the lakes are multi-water, quite deep (up to 40 meters) form entire chains of reservoirs communicating with channels and connected by channels ( Elblлонg Canal ). The flow of lakes is directed mainly to the Vistula river basin in Poland and Pregol (via Lava and Angrap ) - the central waterway of the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation.

On the shores of the lakes are also sanatoriums, camp sites.
