Moldavanka (Odessa region)

Moldavanka is a legendary suburb, and later - the microdistrict of Odessa , widely known primarily due to the " Odessa Tales" by Isaac Babel . Historically, the Moldavanka district covers the entire space between the streets of Staroportofrankovskaya , Mechnikov, General Tsvetaeva, Leningradskaya, Melnitskaya and Balkovskaya, however, from the architectural point of view, the northern border of Moldavanka passes along Gradonachalnitskaya street. Sometimes the neighboring, historically developed micro-districts Bugaevka and Vorontsovka are also referred to Moldavanka. According to various sources, the "Big" Moldavanka is inhabited by 73 to 82 thousand inhabitants, of which about one half are in Malinovsky , and the other in the Primorsky district of Odessa .

To date, it is not exactly established exactly when the Moldavanka farm appeared. Most likely, this happened after the foundation of Odessa . The plan of 1814 indicates a small settlement in the area of modern street indirect. It is a mistake to call the Moldavian woman of the 19th century only a Moldavian settlement. So, since 1802, the land plot between today's Srednyaya, Komitetnaya, Kartamyshevskaya streets and up to indirect or further was a farm of the Kartamyshev family who moved from Kharkov . Bugaevka

Bugaevka is considered to be a small slum-industrial area located to the west of Moldavanka, and located within the streets of Mikhail Grushevsky, Balkovskaya, Dalnitskaya and the railway line.

Historically, this part of the city developed in the 1810s. There are two versions about the origin of the name Bugaevka: 1) bulls (bulls) were raised on this agricultural outskirts; 2) the inhabitants of this area delivered drinking water in carts to other parts of the city, and these heavy carts could only be pulled by bulls, not horses.

For many years Bugaevka is considered one of the most disadvantaged areas of Odessa . Located in a beam, Bugaevka is notable for its characteristic development: unpretentious houses hang over one another.

Recently, Bugaevka has become a place of concentration of many trading, industrial and construction companies, compactly located in the economic buildings of the former "giant plants". There are also several fairly large hypermarkets, a comprehensive school and a football stadium.

Vorontsovka

Vorontsovka (formerly Vorontsovskaya Slobodka) is a small, historically formed part of the city, which is a kind of “island” between the railway, a small industrial zone and Alekseevskaya Square. The proximity to the railway was reflected in the local place names - Warehouse Street, Commodity, Railway Station and Cargo Lane. The central street of the district, formerly called Vorontsovskaya, today bears the name of Chernyshevsky who asked the eternal question "What to do?"

The current industrial zone along General Tsvetaeva Street, starting from the oil and fat factory, was built up with orphanages before the revolution, and from the side of Vodoprovodnaya Street there was the territory of a female charity. There were also personal possessions of Prince Mikhail Vorontsov . After his death, the widow of His Grace Elizaveta Ksaverievna founded the orphanage named after the late husband, Mikhailo-Semenovsky. Hence the origin of the name of the district.

In the 1860s, Vorontsovka received a powerful incentive for development and improvement. A railway was laid right next to it and the Odessa-Tovarnaya station was built, which was the main city station for another two decades.
