Innovation
Over the years, Hankook continues to work on innovative projects that can open new horizons for the development of new tires. In 2012, Hankook and the University of Cincinnati agreed to work together on the New Tires for the Future project. In the same year, they worked on three major projects, which were later presented at the Sema show (2012) [5] .
- TilTread, the revolution of sports tires. Tiltread is a technology that provides dynamic cornering at high speed for non-pneumatic tires. It prevents unnecessary tread wear and potential uneven wear.
- Motiv (off-road tires). These are tires designed for off-road driving. The tire itself consists of flexible polyurethane blocks that move separately, taking into account the shape of the surface. In turn, the hub of the tilt center consumes a tread and provides maximum grip.
- eMembrance is a technology that allows you to spend less fuel by reducing rolling resistance and using less energy. In addition, this technology extends the tread for better grip and more accurate cornering.
In 2014, Hankook announced a new innovation slogan, “The Great Challenge for Big Change.” The projects they worked on in 2014-2015 were inspired by the serious climate change that could result from global warming. In its projects, the company considered the roles that tires can play in the event of such changes. Thus, Hankook created 3 tire concepts.
- Boostrac. These tires were designed to create tremendous driving force through the use of a variable tread block structure. This unit expands in all directions and allows you to work efficiently in desert driving conditions.
- Alpike This is a tire concept that has been developed for cross-country driving. Its design has additional ground clearance and an additional tread that is created by expanding for better traction. In addition, if necessary, you can use studs that can be set in the tread pattern for better performance in snow and ice.
- Hyblade These concept tires are characterized by good water drainage and work on the principle of a water wheel, which increases resistance to increased traction.
In 2016, Hankook announced its innovative project with the motto: “Join the united world”. In this project, Hankook demonstrates the importance of realizing the capabilities of the bus, taking into account the future prospects. To show the corporate vision of the future of driving through tires, the company introduced a series of conceptual designs.
- Magfloat This is a vehicle that can carry one person and moves at a speed of less than 20 km / h. It can be used indoors. This concept works using a magnetic field to move (the principle of expansion and rotation).
- Flexup This is a futuristic vehicle for transporting 1 person. This concept works on the principle of rollover. Its wheel is designed for free movement on a flat surface and climbing stairs.
