In the early 80s he was hired in the studio of Stefano Gabbana , where he learned the basics of work in the fashion industry. In 1982, after Gabbana returned with compulsory military service, he jointly opened a studio dealing with fashion advisory services, where initially each of them worked under his own name. Later, in order to save money, fashion designers joined their efforts under the common Dolce & Gabbana brand. In 1985, as part of Milan Fashion Week, they presented their first collection of women's clothing, which did not bring the expected commercial success. The partners intended to close the business: Gabbana withdrew an order for fabric for the next collection, but the Dolce family was able to provide them with the necessary amount to continue the work. The following year, after the display of the second collection, Dolce and Gabbana opened their own boutique in Milan . In 1987, they presented their line of knitwear , in 1989 - beachwear and underwear. In 1990, created the first collection of fashionable clothes for men. Since 2006, the D & G house has been putting on the Italian football team .
In 2000, 15 years after the start of life and career, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana publicly revealed the nature of their personal relationships - they were lovers for a long time [1] . In 2004, they broke up and since then have only business relationships.
In March 2013, Domenico Dolce was named by Forbes magazine one of the 1000 richest people on the planet (in 736th place with a fortune of $ 2 billion) and the 11th largest fortune in Italy [2] .
Tax avoidance
In May 2009, the Italian government accused the owners of Dolce & Gabbana , who transferred their assets in 2004–2006, worth approximately 249 million euros to Luxembourg, to the holding company Gado , in concealing income. On June 19, 2013, Domenico Dolce, Stefano Gabbana and their business partners were found guilty of avoiding the declaration of 1 billion euros of income ($ 1.3 billion). The court sentenced both designers to one year and eight months in prison and a personal fine of € 500,000. The sentence of Alfonso Dolce, to Domenico's brother, was 1 year and 4 months. In accordance with Italian law, designers will not be imprisoned, as the sentence of less than three years is replaced by house arrest or community service [3] . The designers decided to appeal the verdict, however, on April 30, 2014, the appellate court upheld the lower court decision [4] .
