Biography

Argamakov was born in 1840 into an old noble family. He completed a training course in the 1st Cadet Corps , from which he was released as an officer on June 16, 1859. He served in the Life Guards Pavlovsky Regiment , March 28, 1871 promoted to colonel .

As the commander of the 61st Infantry Regiment of the Vladimir Regiment , he participated in the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-1878 , was in the detachment of M. D. Skobelev near Plevna, and during the occupation of the heights of the Green Mountains, and in the general attack of the Pleven Camp. The Vladimir regiment was especially damaged during the Plevna attack on August 30, 1877; V.F. Argamakov was in front of the regiment, setting an example of dedication and courage.

Then Argamakov, being in the detachment of M. D. Skobelev, made the transition through the Balkans and participated in the battle of Sheinov, which ended with the capture of the army of Wessel Pasha . Commanding the vanguard of the Skobelev’s column, Argamakov was one of the first in Adrianople , whose occupation by the Russian troops cost, as you know, without a shot. For military distinctions during the war, Argamakov was promoted to major general (July 22, 1878, with seniority on the basis of the Manifesto on February 18, 1762) and was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the 3rd degree, St. Stanislav of the 1st degree with swords and gold weapons with the inscription "For courage . "

After the war, Argamakov was in the army infantry without a post, and since 1879 he was in the reserve troops in the army infantry.

In addition to his combat activities, Argamakov was known as a connoisseur of small arms. He wrote several articles published in the Military Collection and devoted to the issues of the rifle specialty. Of these, it is worth mentioning: “On the issue of the properties of gun fire” and “Gun fire and its use”.

Argamakov died while retired on July 16, 1896, and was buried in the Smolensk Orthodox Cemetery in St. Petersburg .

His brother Konstantin Fedorovich Argamakov graduated from the Academy of the General Staff , served as commandant of Sveaborg as a lieutenant general, and then served in the civil service as an honorary guardian of the institutions of Empress Maria and a true privy councilor .
