Amaretto ( Amaretto , a diminutive of Italian. Amaro [1] ) - Italian alcoholic drink of the amaro class, dark brown liqueur based on almonds and / or apricot kernels and spices. The alcohol content is 21-30% vol.
It is distinguished from amaro precisely by the obligatory presence of almonds and / or apricot kernels in the composition of almonds , due to which it acquires a characteristic smack, reminiscent of marzipan , has the aroma of almond nuts. The homeland of the amaretto is considered to be the Saronno region.
Amaretto is made from sweet and bitter almonds with the addition of vanilla and other aromatic roots and herbs. Almonds are poured with grape syrup so that hydrocyanic acid , which is contained in bitter almonds, decomposes during distillation .
A square bottle is the "calling card" of the amaretto liquor. There is a beautiful legend that glassblowers of the island of Murano came up with this unique form so that even by touch in the dark you could determine what exactly you pour into your glass .
They use amaretto with ice , as part of cocktails , add to tea or coffee [2] . It is also used in the confectionery industry - for soaking cakes , added to baking and desserts .
