Biography

Hank Aaron was born at the height of the Great Depression in the family of a shipyard worker from Alabama . A family of eight children lived in poverty. Since childhood, Hank fell in love with baseball and spent a lot of time playing in a nearby park. Thanks to the game of baseball, Aaron managed to transfer from a segregated school to the Josephine Allen Institute, where there was a serious baseball section. Speaking for various amateur and semi-professional teams, Aaron gained some fame in sports circles. By that time, in professional baseball, which has traditionally been a sport for whites, thanks to Jackie Robinson , the racial barrier was destroyed. In 1949, 15-year-old Aaron visited the Brooklyn Dodgers Major League Baseball club, but was not accepted into the team. At age 17, Hank signed a contract with the Indianapolis Clowns club from the Negro Professional League [1] .

Speaking for the Clowns, Aaron proved to be an excellent slugger, and in 1952, the Major League Baseball club Boston Braves bought his contract. The Braves management sent Hank to his farm club from Eau Claire , Wisconsin , where Aaron fought off an average of .3636 innings during the season and was awarded the title of best newcomer by the end of the season. He spent the next season at the Braves Farm Club in Florida , where he was racially discriminated against by fans and other players, which did not stop Aaron from having a great season and earning him the title of most valuable league player. In the winter of 1953-1954, Aaron performed in Puerto Rico [1] .

In the spring of 1954, Aaron began training with the Braves main squad, having moved from Boston to Milwaukee , and soon gained a spot in the main squad after an injury to a regular right field player. In his debut season, Aaron hit 0.280 innings. Soon, he became a leading Braves player and one of the league’s best players. In 14 seasons, Aaron fought off an average of more than 0,300 innings, in 15 seasons he did at least 30 home runs and at least 100 wounds. During his long and successful career, Hank played 3298 matches, which is the third result in the history of Major League Baseball. Twice he became the best player in the league in the battering and four times the best in home runs, 24 times took part in matches of all the stars of the league. Hank Aaron owns several baseball records. [1]

In 1972, it became clear that Aaron was claiming to break the Major League Baseball home run record, which belonged to Babe Ruth . At that time, Hank was the highest paid baseball player in the world, his annual salary was 200 thousand dollars. On April 8, 1974 in Atlanta, Aaron made his 715 home run, breaking the record of Ruth. The gala moment was overshadowed by a large number of letters of threats based on racial hatred, which came to the player's address. Aaron ended his playing career in 1976, spending the last seasons for the Milwaukee Brewers club. During his career, he made 755 home runs, which is a record for Major League Baseball [1] .

After completing a player’s career, Aaron became vice president of training for Atlanta Braves, his job was to search for a team of promising players and monitor their progress in the junior leagues. In 1982, Aaron was admitted to the Baseball Hall of Fame, and in 1997 the Hank Aaron Stadium was opened in his hometown of Mobile in Alabama [1] .
