Communist League , CL ( English Communist League ) - the first Trotskyist organization in the UK, established in 1932; Since 1937, the members of the CL have entered the Labor Party under the name of the Marxist League , ML ( Marxist League ), and in 1938 - into the Revolutionary Socialist League .
History
The league was created in 1932 by former members of the Communist Party of Great Britain from Balham and Tuting in South London. Among the first members of the organization was Gary Weeks . They were expelled after the formation of a group within the Communist Party, known as the Balham Group (Balham Group), and then the British Section of the International Left Opposition . They published the monthly newspaper Red Flag and the quarterly magazine The Communist.
In 1933, Leon Trotsky advised KL to join the Independent Labor Party (NLP). However, the leadership of the League did not follow his advice. In subsequent years, a series of splits occurred in the organization. In particular, in 1934, the Bolshevik-Leninist faction (Bolshevik-Leninist Fraction) was formed within the KL, advocating for entrism. In 1937, the Communist League collapsed and its members under the name of the Marxist League join the NLP. In it, they closely interact with the Marxist group of Cyril James , and in 1938 they merged with her into the Revolutionary Socialist League .
