Story
The film consists of seven stories. Two in Italian material and five in French.
At a city holiday, the organizer of the attraction ( Gerard Philip ) invites the public and demonstrates to her the deadly sins, which will be discussed in the novels.
1. Greed (dir. Eduardo De Filippo )
About the greedy homeowner Alvaro, who was going to drive out from the apartment a tenant of Eduardo, who did not pay on time. Alvaro loses the wallet and Eduardo finds it. Hoping for a reward, he returns the find to the owner, and the one not to pay the 10% to the finder, states that 15,000 have disappeared from the wallet. But he does not notice how an expensive pearl worth 11,500 falls from his desk into the shoe to Eduardo.
2. Laziness (dir. Jean Dreville )
About the celestial office, led by the Apostle Peter and overwhelmed with work due to excessive activity of people. Life on Earth went into a frantic rhythm, and the death rate of young people from accidents has increased very much. One of the dead, Martin Paul Gaston ( Louis de Funes ), even plucked up the audacity and criticized the work of heavenly officials. This was the last straw, and the apostle Peter summoned Laziness. From now on, it becomes not a sin, but a virtue, and is sent to earth to slow down the rhythm of people's lives.
3. Lust (dir. Yves Alegre )
About the handsome artist Ravila, his beloved Madame Blanc and her 13-year-old daughter, who said she was expecting a child from Ravil.
4. Envy (dir. Roberto Rossellini )
About the artist, his beloved cat and his young wife, jealous of the talent of her husband, the independence of the cat and the beauty of a model.
5. Gluttony (dir. Carlo Rome)
About the village couple and the doctor, staying at their place for the night, and preferring a good dinner to a beautiful hostess.
6. Pride (dir. Claude Otan-Lara)
About poor girl Anne-Marie ( Michelle Morgan ), left without an inheritance after her father’s death and former friends scorn for her, one of whom invites her to the ball, but then regrets about it. At the ball, Anne-Marie is accused of stealing a diamond, but during a search of her reticule, only sandwiches that she was going to take to her mother are found.
7. The Eighth Mortal Sin (dir. Georges Lacombe )
In the end, the attractionist offers the public to guess what is the eighth mortal sin, and draws the following picture:
Night. Suspicious quarter. A taxi stops on the street, from which an elderly priest and a young sailor exit. Under the condemning gaze of the taxi driver, they head for the same house. The door opens them semi-nude black. They walk into the house and see a beautiful woman, a man in ladies' clothes, and a Chinese, who voluptuously embraces a little girl. Who are these people, and why are they gathered here? A few minutes later, they all go to another room, where they are doing what they came for - posing for a picture illustrating the eighth mortal sin: to see evil where there is none .
