Name origin [1]

According to the legend that arose in the beginning. XIX century. and reproduced by A. A. Martynov , and after him by many other authors, “a shaft or chain was arranged here, behind which people from the Korchemnoi customs were driving around the city and were testified by a sharp long iron rod, or with a probe - is there no hay , straw and other luggage, wine, then this terrain is called Zatsepoy, that is, located behind the chain we called, and where there was a gatehouse of a korchemny watchman standing with a probe, this place was called Shchupk, converted into Pinch ” [2] .

From this legend arose the second - about the existence of the gates of the Earthen city here. P. Sytin argues that “although on the plans that have come down to us, drawings of Moscow in the 17th century. against Dubininskaya Street and Novokuznetskaya Street continuing it to the north, the gate on Zemlyaniy Val is not called, but all the other data show that they were here and there was a long road up to the XVII century. ... The high road along Novokuznetsk and Dubininskaya streets is also evidenced by being on the first in the 16th — 17th centuries. Kuznetsk sloboda, on the second - sloboda boaters who brought people and goods to Kolomna. Coachmen and other places (in Dorogomilovo, on Tverskaya-Yamskaya and on Ulyanovskaya) were settled on large roads, and there could be no exception for the Kolomna Yamskaya settlement [3] . The report on executions of archers under Peter I on September 30, 1698 directly indicates the Kaluga, Serpukhov and Kolomna gates. The Kolomna Gate, undoubtedly, stood near Kolomna Yamskaya Sloboda, that is, between Zatsepa and Novokuznetskaya Streets ” [4] .

However, the Act books for 1701-1703 (and the more recent) do not contain a single mention of the Kolomna gate; Kolomna Yamskaya Sloboda is invariably listed in them behind the Serpukhov Gate. Most likely, in the report on the execution of archers, the Kolomna side called the Tagansky gate, from which the Kolomna road led; along this road, and the current Abelman's Zastava was once called Kolomenskaya.

The earliest mention of Zatsepy is found in the census of 1738 in a rather obscure context: “The empty place next to the Earthen city ... on the right side - from the Zatsepy Dukh to the Moscow River.”

In 1748, the meat row was mentioned on Zatsepe. This row, transferred in 1735 from Balchug here to the empty lands and called the Balchuzhny meat row, occupied the space "90 sazh from the Serpukhov Gate, 75 sazhen", from Yamskoy Kolomenskaya 75 sazhen "this corresponds to the location and length of the present ul. The hook, which probably then began to form.

In 1775, Zatsepa is mentioned, but it is not a street: “the bank of the Moscow River, which is known as Zatsepa” and “the bank called Zatsepa, where the Krasnokholmsky Live Bridge stands” [5] .

Zatsepskaya Street appears for the first time only in the book “The Index of Moscow, showing in alphabetical order the names of the owners of all the houses of this capital ...” in 1793, which also contradicts the statement about the ancient origin of the street. Zabelin believes that the name comes from the Zabeza tavern [6] , and this seems to be the most plausible.

History

House number 41, the building of the Women's Commercial School (now the IV academic building of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics), 1903-1905, arch. N. L. Shevyakov

At the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th century, the area between Zatsepa and Pinchkom became one of the Moscow educational centers. At the end of the 19th century, the extensive corps of the Alexander Hospital, the poorhouse and the Solodovnikov Commercial School were built on Shchipka. In 1900 - 1914 a quarter was built up, now occupied by the Russian Economic University named after GV Plekhanov . The quarter houses the Commercial Schools - the male, named after Tsesarevich Alexei, and the female, with the home church - as well as the building of the Moscow Commercial Institute, Russia's first economic university. The buildings were built according to the designs of architects A. U. Zelenko (Men’s Commercial School), NL Shevyakova (Women’s Commercial School) and S. U. Solovyov (Commercial Institute, after the death of Solovyov, the construction was headed by A. V. Shusev ). At the same time, it was originally planned that the building of the institute would face the red line Zatsepy, however, due to the outbreak of the First World War, the building was never completed. For the same reasons, the project of laying the road to the Garden Ring, which, united with the Zatsepsky deadlock , was supposed to provide a direct access to the ring from Chipok Street, was not implemented.

In those days, the street passed east through the territory of modern Paveletskaya Square to Kozhevnicheskaya Street , past the old building of Paveletsky Station . The Zatsepsky market, known since 1732, was located on the site of the central volume and the western wing of the modern station. Before the new station was built in the 1980s, a crowded pedestrian square remained in its place, in which summer residents went to Zatsepskaya Square to fill gas stations. cylinders. Zatsep Street was cut to Zatsepskaya Square (intersection with Dubininskaya Street . At the same time, in 1970, houses south of Zatsepy were demolished, on the site of which Leninskaya (now Paveletskaya) Square was spread. Today the square is being built again (preparatory works are underway).

In the 2000s, with the construction of an office building (Paveletskaya Square, 2 p. 3), Zatsepa was cut off from Dubininskaya Street, actually turning into an intra-block passage from Zatsepsky impasse to Malaya Pionerskaya Street . In addition to educational buildings REU them. G.V. Plekhanov, a number of two-storey buildings of the XIX century are preserved on the street.

Walking left on Pyatnitskaya to the left, you will even get to Zatsepy, this amazing corner of the world, where the most impossible from the universal point of view and one of the most effective dramas of Ostrovsky “In a foreign hangover”, where the owner of an honest teacher takes a receipt from Andryusha Bruskova to marry her daughter his guest, and "Kit Kitich" is paid on this strange receipt, because he doesn’t know what the Stürches can do and internally fears them, although he breaks down on the drunk Strut Saharych ... Here, between Zatsepoy and the Commissariat Om , two lives: the life of the Zemstvo and the life of the "Strouts" live side by side with one another, vegetatively intertwined, although they do not mix and the less amalgamated.
