History
The territory where the avenue is located at the beginning of the 20th century was located on the northern outskirts of the city. There were warehouses and borrowings of Barnaul merchants. After the great fire on May 2, 1917, the City Council approved the plan of the garden city , according to which it was supposed to make an ideally round area on these lands, from which six symmetrical radii- boulevards would depart. The square was supposed to resemble the sun, boulevards - the sun's rays. 300 plots were allocated for construction. But there were so many volunteers who had to draw lots. The incentive was that the fire victims wanted to get housing. However, due to the general economic disorder in the course of the project implementation, elementary town-planning norms were violated, self-seizure of the territory often occurred [2] .
Later, in the middle of the 30s of the 20th century, the projected center of the garden city shifted towards the Tekstilshchikov square. The first three beams of the boulevard intersected with Lenin Avenue [3] . After the melange combine was created in Barnaul, the authorities rejected this town planning project, giving the territory under social towns for the combine workers.
Modern building Kalinin Avenue appeared thanks to the master plan for the development of Barnaul from 1937 . At the intersection of Kalinin Avenue and Lenin , the main traffic intersection of the city, Stalin Square (now October Square ), was formed, the DK BMK and the decade school No. 25 were built (today the State Art Museum of the Altai Territory is located here). Also on this segment of the avenue to the Tekstilshchikov Square in 1932 - 1955, residential 5-storey residential buildings, a polyclinic and shops in the style of Stalinist classicism were erected, replacing the barracks of the melange combine .
During the Great Patriotic War , more than 100 industrial enterprises were evacuated to Barnaul from the European part of the USSR , which were mainly located on the northern outskirts of the city. The main road that connected them to the city center was Kalinin Avenue, which was extended beyond the railway track.
In September 2007, a major overhaul of the pavement was carried out on the avenue [4] .
