Flock of starlings in flight

Murmuration is the phenomenon of a coordinated flight of a large flock of birds (starlings, jackdaws, crows, etc.), forming dynamic volumetric figures of variable density.
During murmuration, light falls on each bird from all sides [1] .
To understand how the behavior algorithm of an individual bird leads to a similar phenomenon, computer modeling helps. So, it showed that the mechanism of murmuration plays the role of protecting the pack from predators [2] .
A similar phenomenon is demonstrated by large schools of fish .
