History
Back in 201 BC e. Jiangxia County (江夏 郡) was formed, and Shasian County (沙 羡 县) was composed of it. In 222, Sun Quan declared himself go-wan of the state of Wu (吳國國 王), and on the Shenash mountain, the Shakou (夏 口 城) fortification was built, which housed the administrative structures of Jiangxi County. After the end of the Three Kingdoms era and the unification of Chinese lands into the Jin empire, the authorities of Shasian County and Wuchang County (武昌 郡) created in 280 were located in the Syakou fortification. After the North Chinese lands were ruled by nomads, and huge masses of refugees poured south, the county of Rongan (汝南 县) was created to administer the resettled people in these places.
After the unification of Chinese lands into the Sui empire in 589, Rongan County was renamed Jiangxia (江夏 县). After the Xinhai Revolution, Jiangxi County was renamed Wuang County (武昌 县) in 1912. In 1926, the urbanized part of Wuchang County was allocated to a separate city, Wuchang (which later became part of Wuhan), and the countryside remained under the control of the county authorities.
In 1949, the Daie Special District (大冶 专区) was created, and the county became part of it. In 1952, the Daie Special District was disbanded, and the county became part of the Xiaogan Special District. In 1959, the Xiaogan Special District was disbanded, and the counties that were part of it came under the control of the Wuhan authorities, but in 1961, the Xiaogan Special District was recreated. In 1965, the county was transferred to the Xianning Special District (咸宁 专区), which in 1970 was renamed to Xianning County (咸宁 地区). In 1975, the county was again transferred under the control of the Wuhan authorities.
In 1995, by the decision of the State Council of the People's Republic of China, Wuchang County was disbanded, and in its place a district of Jiangxi city subordination was created.
