Biography
Cayetano was born into a family de Arker Bouigas. Arkers were noblemen , Bouigas engaged in art. His maternal grandfather is the architect Caetano Bouigas Monrava, the author of the Columbus Monument in Barcelona, which was presented at the World Exhibition in Barcelona in 1888. [one]
Caetano did not receive an art education and became a self-taught artist. Since 1968, he confidently began to participate in solo and group exhibitions, both in Spain and around the world. Despite the fact that Caetono painted portraits and landscapes , the main motive in his work was the image of a woman, often half-naked. [2]
In May 1983, he was selected to open the new El Claustre Gallery in Girona . He will work with her for 25 years and will demonstrate resounding success.
The artist is a finalist for the BP Portrait Award in 2011. The 50 works exhibited at the exhibition included one of the artist’s most popular paintings - "Oh!". It depicts the girlfriend of one of Caetano's students. In the picture, a half-naked girl, painted in a figurative style, looks at her abstract portrait. This approach was supposed to stimulate dialogue in art. [3]
“Only an artist is able to depict life as it is. Others - sorcerer's students, applicants for genius, extravagant professionals - barely have time to sketch or fake it. So in the works of Arker Bouygas there is a lot of life. As Victor Hugo said, only an artist can reinvent what he sees so that it seems familiar and at the same time new. ” - Carmen Posadas , writer. [four]
The artist’s works are also exhibited after his death. For example, in 2014, the exhibition “Arquer Buigas: Return to Painting”, organized by the Vila Casas Foundation, was held. [5] As stated in the press release, "female nudes immediately attract the attention of the viewer with their elegance and sensuality, emphasizing the beauty of the female body, like Degas , only with a touch of sophisticated voluptuousness that is conveyed even in portraits." The main feature of the exhibition was a collection of 19 palettes, which the artist used from 1998 to 2002. The fact is that Caetano cut out his own palettes so that it would be convenient to hold them for several hours. [6]
