The 2019/2020 season is the sixth season of the Formula E championship, the world championship for electric cars, recognized by the International Automobile Federation as the highest class of electric open-road racing cars. The season starts with a double stage on November 22-23, 2019 in Riyadh , Saudi Arabia , and will also end with a double stage in London , Great Britain , July 25-26, 2020.

The 2019/20 season was the second for the second generation of Formula E. cars. Jean-Eric Verne started the season as the world champion, which he became part of the DS Techeetah team last season, and the DS Techeetah team started the season as champions among the teams .

Team Changes
- The Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team joined the championship as a factory, replacing the HWA Racelab [18] .
- The Porsche Formula E Team will debut in the championship [19] .
- The NIO team was sold to the Chinese company Lisheng Racing [20] , but will remain in the championship under the name NIO [19] . The team also uses Penske EV-3 power plants, which were used by the Dragon team last season, but the team retained its factory status, as the power plants were homologated by the FIA [21] .
- The Venturi Racing team switched to Mercedes power plants, thus becoming a client team [22] .
Lineup changes
- Neil Yani returned to the championship as part of the Porsche team [15] .
- Andre Lotterer moved from the DS Techeetah team to the Porsche team [16] .
- World champion in endurance racing in 2015 and 2017 and a former Formula 1 pilot Brandon Hartley made his debut in the championship as part of the Dragon team [7] .
- Maximilian Gunter transferred from Dragon to Andretti Motorsport , replacing Antoni Felix da Costa [2] .
- 2019 Formula 2 Champion Nick de Vries will make his debut in the championship as part of the Mercedes team [10] , replacing Gary Puffett .
- AntΓ³nio Felix da Costa transferred from Andretti Motorsport to DS Techeetah , replacing Andre Lotterer [5] .
- DTM Championship Pilot Nico Muller makes his debut in the Championship with the Dragon [8] , so the Dragon team has completely updated its roster.
- 2017 GT endurance world champion James Calado makes his debut in the championship as part of the Jaguar Racing team , replacing Alex Lynn [14] .
- Ma Tsinghua returned to the championship as part of the NIO team, replacing Tom Dillman [11] .

Calendar Changes
- The new stage will debut in Seoul on May 3, 2020 [26] .
- The stage in London will return to the calendar [27] , will take place on the new track in the area of ββthe ExCeL exhibition center on the banks of the Thames , will be doubled and will end the season.
- The season will begin with a double stage in Riyadh .
- The stage in Jakarta will be debuting on June 6, 2020 [28] .
- There are no stages in the calendar in Monaco , Bern and Hong Kong .
Changes to the rules
Technical
- Prohibition of the use of dual motors [29] .
- Increased motor power in attack mode by 10 kW, from 225 kW to 235 kW [30] .
- Prohibition of activation of the attack mode during the exit of the safety car and during the yellow flags on the entire track (FCY) [30] .
- For every minute spent during the departure of the safety car or during the period of yellow flags on the entire track (FCY), 1 kWh of energy will be subtracted from the available amount [30] .
Sports
- The pilot who won first place in his qualification group in the group stage of qualification will be awarded an additional 1 point [30] .
Preseason Tests
Like the last two years, pre-season tests were held on the Ricardo Tormo circuit , Valencia , Spain . All teams took part in the tests [31] . For tests, a special configuration of the track 3,094 km in length is used [32] . A total of 6 test sessions were planned, lasting 3 hours, two sessions a day, the first began at 9:00 local time, and the second - 14:00 [33] .
