The son of a teacher. In 1836 he graduated from the 1st Moscow Gymnasium , in 1841 - the medical faculty of Moscow University . Until 1848 he was an assistant at a university clinic; worked at the Noble Institute , was a doctor at the 4th Moscow gymnasium . He was also a family doctor on the estate of the Sukhovo-Kobylins in the Yaroslavl province. Since 1858, he became the head physician of Moscow prison hospitals: after his death in 1853, F.P. Haase, the prison committee for five years could not find him a worthy replacement until he settled on Berkut's candidacy. Since 1876, he was a member of the Board of Trustees and inspector of Moscow hospitals of the civilian department.
N.K. Berkut was one of the founders and the most zealous and outstanding figures of the Moscow society of Russian doctors ; in 1862-1871 (intermittently from May 2, 1866 to December 1867), he was a fellow chairman of the company , from 1872 until his death on June 15 ( 27 ), 1890 - chairman of the company .
He owns a number of articles and notes published in the Moscow Medical Newspaper in the period 1858-1876.
Wife, Natalia Vladimirovna, nee Zmeeva (1829—?), Daughter of Vladimir Petrovich and Anna Nikolaevna Zmeeva.
