Football career

A native of Kirkcaldy , Billy began his football career with the local teams at Inverting United and Kirkcaldy United. In the season 1914/15 he became a player in the Scottish club, “ Rovers Rovers ”. He spent ten seasons in the team, playing a total of 216 matches and scoring 9 goals.

In 1924 he became a player of the English club Wensday from Sheffield . He made his debut in the main squad on September 8, 1924 in the match of the Second Division against Derby County [2] . In total, he played 29 matches in the league for Wensday and 2 more in the FA Cup [3] .

In May 1925 he moved to another English club Manchester United , which secured access to the elite First Division . Inglis was bought to replace the main right-back of the club Charlie Moore and in the main part of the “Reds” could only make his debut on March 20, 1926 in the First Division match against Everton [4] . On April 28, 1926, he scored his first (and only) goal for United in a match against Cardiff City [5] . In total, in the 1925/26 season he spent 7 matches for the team. The following season, he played in six starting matches of the championship in August and September 1926, after which he lost his place in the first team and was no longer involved in the games of the first team until December 1928, when he spent his last match for Manchester United. In that game, the Reds on the road were defeated by Sheffield United with a score of 6: 1 [6] . Inglis was considered a Manchester United player until 1930, but did not play more in the main squad, however he regularly played for the reservists and was their captain [1] .

In June 1930, Inglis moved to the Northampton Town English club, playing in the Third Southern Division . He spent two seasons in the team, playing a total of 67 matches. In 1932, he completed his career as a player, after which he worked at the Northampton coaching staff [1] .
