Gwangmyeon Network ( cor. 광명 망 ? , 光明網 ? ) Is the national intranet in the DPRK . It was created in 2000 [1] at the initiative of the DPRK government and is one of the most isolated computer networks from the Internet (see Deep Web ). It contains, in addition to materials praising Juche and the DPRK government, various scientific materials (technical, natural-science texts, communication sites of higher educational institutions, etc.). Electronic correspondence is available [2] , private user sites are allowed. According to various estimates, in 2014 it numbers from 1 to 5.5 thousand sites [3] . Of these, half are educational institutions and other organizations.

Content

Description

By orders of institutions, the Computer Information Center downloads sites from the Internet, mainly of scientific and technical content, conducts a censorship audit of the content of the site, after which it is uploaded to Gwangmyeon and made available to users.

Gwangmyeon accounts for most of the domain names in the .kp zone that cannot be accessed using global Internet access. [4] In 2016, Korean Computer Center specialists implemented the implementation of IPv4 protocol to use the IP range 10.0.0.0/8. [4] , IPv4 addresses of the ranges 172.16.0.0/12 and 192.168.0.0/16 are also used. DPRK citizens primarily use IP addresses to search for websites, more often than domain names. [4] Like the Internet, Gwangmyeon supports browsers developed in the DPRK, e-mail services and news groups.

The main interface language of the network is Korean . However, there are materials in English, Russian, Japanese and other languages for the use of which a network translation service has been created, in which 2000 translators work around the clock, with a database of 2 million words.

Access Technology

Unlimited free round-the-clock access to the network is carried out via telephone lines via Dial-Up , mobile access to Gwangmyeon is supported by Koryolink . Since 2013, there has been its own mobile application for entering Gwangmyeon using the Samjiyon tablet [5] and Ariran smartphones. Since 2016, “Gwanmyeon” has been used as the main network for the IPTV system “ Manban ” [6] ; a wireless connection of the set-top box with the network [7] has been organized. In 2018, the Mire wireless access system was launched, which is technologically similar to Wi-Fi , which should improve the quality of access in Gwangmyeon in Pyongyang. [eight]
