The son of Mesanepada . His name is not in the "Royal List", but he is mentioned in one inscription of that time. In the winter of 1922/23, Sir Leonard Woolley conducted excavations in El Ubeida , near Ur, on the territory of a settlement, which was named after one of the periods of the most ancient history of Mesopotamia. In addition to the necropolis of the prehistoric era, a platform made of raw brick was discovered in Ubeida, on which a small but richly ornamented temple once stood. The sanctuary itself was completely destroyed in antiquity, but a large number of fragments of its decoration, including excellent bronze statues and reliefs, were thrown out by the enemy and lay under a layer of dust at the foot of the platform. Among this priceless "garbage", Woolley found a small oblong white-limestone tablet with the inscription carved on it:

"To the goddess Ninhursag , Aanepada, the king of Ur, the son of Mesanepada, the king of Ur, built a (this) temple for Ninhursag."

Up to that time, nothing was known about Aanepada, but the researchers easily managed to identify his father Mesanepada with the founder of the first dynasty of Ur. Thus, for the first time it was proved that one of the most ancient rulers of Sumer, who was previously considered a mythical character, existed in reality.
