Story

The protagonist, the average Japanese, Ken Kubo, lives with his girlfriend, Yoshiko. One day, he accidentally meets his old school friend, Tanaka, who introduces Ken to his otaku friends (an artist, a collector of weapon models, a science fiction fan, a martial arts fan). Having become friends with them, Kubo plunges into the seething vortex of otaku life, which is why the girl throws him. Seeing the negative attitude towards his new hobby, Kubo decides to become an otaku from otaku and, as the pinnacle of his dream, to build an Otaku Grad. At the end of the OVA, Kubo, who achieved fame and made his dream come true, regains his youth and flies off to look for the Planet Otak in the robot that Otaku Grad turns into.

Otaku Portrait

OVA has small interviews with Otaku. They are small documentaries called The Otaku Portrait. This interview with different people who were, or still consider themselves otaku. Their faces are covered with mosaics, and the voices were computerized so that no one could recognize them. In contrast to the plot of OVA, praising the image of otaku, "Portrait of Otaku", on the contrary, puts them in black light. At the end of the second OVA, after several weeks of investigations, the film crew managed to find a real otaku (they didn’t call others), but failed to interview him - he beat the film crew and disappeared in an unknown direction to the police at high speed.
