A bridge is a type of fixed dentures that is used to replace the included defects in the dentition. [1] It is used in cases where several consecutive teeth are destroyed, so such a prosthesis can be attached to spaced healthy teeth or closed with crowns .

Term
The term "bridges" is borrowed from technology, since the construction of bridges is the basis for its construction. [one]
Types of prostheses
In the manufacture of bridges used in dentistry , adhesive or adhesive bridges are common. The supporting elements in them are not crowns , but a variety of fixed devices and, in addition, adhesive composite materials are used to fix them.
Various authors differently call these bridges:
- Maryland Bridge [2]
- Manhattan Bridge [3]
- Rochetta Bridge or Rochetta Retainer [4]
- Inlay Bridge [5]
- Fiber adhesive bridge [6]
- Adhesive bridges with aramid thread [7]
- Retention prosthesis fixed after acid etching [8]
- Pontic [9]
- One session prosthesis [10]
- Cable-stayed bridge [11]
- Composite tire [12]
- Adhesive bridges [13]
- Bridge prostheses with minimal hard tissue processing [14]
- Fixed prostheses without preparation of teeth [15]
- Fixed tires using etched enamel. [16]
In Russia, the term adhesive bridge is most often used (AMP) [17] or adhesive bridge. [18] From the point of view of linguistics, both of these terms have the same meaning. [19]
Benefits
- Minimum preparation of supporting teeth , mainly within the enamel .
- Excellent aesthetic results.
- Reversibility of orthopedic treatment .
- The lack of metal .
- Natural refraction of a design.
- No need for temporary crowns .
- A small number of cases of need for pain relief .
- almost devoid of contact with the mucous membrane, with the exception of the edge of the gums.
- The relatively low cost of the prosthesis .
Weaknesses
- Qualities inherent to composites (possible color change over time, abrasion several times superior to natural abrasion of tooth enamel, shrinkage, toxic and allergic effects).
- Increased abrasion in the presence of ceramic antagonists .
- The impossibility of temporary fixation.
- Possible chips of restoration material.
- Preparation of healthy teeth under supporting elements
- The possibility of functional periodontal overload with the wrong choice of prosthesis design
- The irritating effect of the edge of the artificial crown on the periodontal cover
