History
The modern village was formed by the merger of two settlements: the villages of Bolshoi Tuvani and the villages of Pitushkino (Shadows, Patakkasy).
The probable time of foundation of the Chuvash villages of the Tuvan district, to which the village of Pitushkino (Shadows) belongs, can be considered the beginning of the 15th century [3] The Russian village of Tuvan was founded at the end of the 16th century . As a stronghold of the Russian state in the former territory of the Kazan Khanate . [four]
The village until 1780 was part of the Tuvan moan of the Kurmysh district of the Nizhny Novgorod province . From 1780 to 1917, in the Ataevsky volost of the Kurmysh district of the Simbirsk province .
Peasant War led by Yemelyan Pugachev
Tuvan took an active part in the peasant war of 1773-1775 . The rebels, as in the neighboring villages, smashed the houses of church employees, and distributed their property to the poor. [5]
An interesting legend has survived about the entry of the Chuvash peasants of the state village. Tuvan. When a messenger from Pugachev rode into the village and read the manifesto, the peasants, together with their neighbors, got up and dealt with the priest. Later, 3 companies of soldiers arrived in the village to pacify the "rebellion". The Chuvash decided to die, but not to extradite the instigators. to the question: “Who rebelled and hung priests and gentlemen here?” - the answer followed: “We don’t know! Apparently, they hanged themselves! ” [5]
Religion
In the village there was a church in honor of the Epiphany of the Lord, built in 1781 . Thanks to this, the village had an alternative name - Epiphany. The church was rebuilt in 1880 . Side chapel: in the name of St. Michael the Archangel. Two chapels - in the cemetery at the village of Kumashka, in the village of Shumerlya, both wooden. Closed in 1940 , no longer restored. [6]
