History
In 1884, the Bath Iron Works shipyard was founded, and pretty soon it became one of the largest enterprises in the industry, building many ships that it remains to this day. Therefore, there was a need to improve navigation on the Kennebec River , leading to the shipyard. Funds for the construction of 5 lighthouses along the Kennebec River in the amount of $ 17,000 were allocated by the US Congress on March 2, 1895. In 1898, the construction of the lighthouse was completed. The lighthouse was an octagonal tower 7 meters high, built according to the same design as the dubbing point lighthouse . The caretaker's house was also made of wood. In 1901, a boathouse was built, which until now has not been preserved. On January 15, 1902 , Fresnel lenses were installed on the lighthouse. In 1902, a fog bell tower was also built, and in 1906, a small boiler room.
The lighthouse was automated by the US Coast Guard in 1959. After which most of the buildings became the property of Maine .
In 1988, it was included in the National Register of Historic Places [2] .
In 2014, the caretaker's house was restored with donations from local residents.
