Deer Island (Deer Island [1] , Eng. Deer Island - “Deer Island”) is a peninsula in the northern part of Boston Bay , in Boston in Massachusetts . A former island [1] of 0.75 square kilometers, formerly separated by the Shirley Gut Strait from the town of in Suffolk County. In the years 1675-1676. 500–1100 Indians wintered on the island, interned during the Indian War known as the King Philip War .
In 1846-1851 the island was used to contain emigrants who fled from hunger in Ireland (1845-1849). In 1847, a hospital was opened for them. An almshouse for the poor was set up on the island.
In 1890, a was built near the island. In 1984, the lighthouse was destroyed by a storm. In 2016, the new lighthouse was moved. Beacon with variable fire (white and red), flash every 10 seconds.
From 1896 to 1991, there was a prison on the northeastern part of the island [1] . in this prison, she is also Young, she is Haskins, she is also Mother Hubbard ( Old Mother Hubbard ). Sylvia Plath mentions the prison in the poem Point Shirley, written in January 1959 [2] .
In his book A Brief History of Almost Everything In The World , Bill Bryson reports on experiments on volunteers in a military prison on the island after the Spanish flu in August 1918 [3] . In 1921, a report on two experiments on the island (November – December 1918 and February – March 1919) was written by researcher .

Deer Island has , one of the main wastewater treatment plants at (MWRA). The first station on Deer Island was built at the end of the 19th century, the second in 1968. The new station has been in operation since 1995. The station occupies two-thirds of the island, the park occupies the remainder.
